Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate the efforts of the Early generation in the NA barley breeding program.
Data analysis and summaries; timely variety advancement decisions
Evaluate early generation and advanced material for agronomic, malting and brewing potential.
Supervise Assistant Plant Breeders in the evaluation of barley lines. In-Field variety evaluation.
Integrate the results from various programs, malt quality, pathology, genomics, field trials to identify superior barley genotypes.
Assist ABI’s Director of Global Barley Research and other personnel in ABI in determining appropriate strategy for barley development and deployment.
Collaborate with Managers of Malt Quality, Plant Pathology and Genomics to determine best research approaches for barley variety development.
Participate in report preparation by coordinating data summarization and analysis to provide outside personnel information about the breeding program.
Improve plant breeding knowledge through college courses, workshops, seminars, professional meetings and staff training to enhance job performance.
Design and develop new plant breeding methodology and field plot techniques to enhance performance of the breeding program. New technology evaluation.

Primary purpose and function of position
Primary purpose is to develop new barley varieties for northamerica that provide anheuser-busch inbev with barley raw material supply forhigh quality beer.
Function of position is technical and operational. providing directionand management of north america barley breeding program from initial breedingwork to advancement into malting and brewing evaluation process.
Involves working with a wide network of scientists worldwide andunderstanding ABI’s barley, malt and beer production needs for quality factors.
Ph.D. in Plant Breeding orrelated field.
Experience in field plottechniques - statistical design of field trials, observations in the field.
Knowledge of genetics andplant breeding methods.
Ability and willingness to travelextensively.
Ability to lead a researchprogram.
